Journey to Adulthood Pilgrims

Photo of Zach

Zack Cunningham – My goal for this pilgrimage is to make a connection with God by finding a place in Yosemite that is in complete silence.

Nicholas Lindsey-Clark – On the pilgrimage to San Francisco I want to find myself in this modern age.  I want to know what I’m to do with this life.  By going on this pilgrimage, I hope to know where that place is.  If that place is discovered, then I’m one step closer to adulthood.

Logan Cornelius
– In this pilgrimage I would enjoy it if I excelled beyond my comfort zone.  I want to shape myself by looking and participating in incredible experiences that only California has to offer.

Ruth Webber-Juggoo – On this pilgrimage to California I would like to learn about myself and achieve rejuvenation in being in a different setting than I am used to.  I would like to learn about myself in the new experiences I encounter and to see the depth in life.

Elise Bisset – I want to go on the pilgrimage to prove to myself and the world that I am no longer a child, but yet still have room to learn and grow.  I want to love and trust those around me and strengthen the connections within my group.  I wish to see my spiritual self staring back through the mirror.

Emi Varga-Toth – During this trip to California I would like to distance myself from my family and friends so I may properly know myself as my own individual.  I would like to gain the independence to make my own choices without the influence and opinions of those regularly around me.  Other than that, I would like a memorable experience and to see and feel new things.

Kim Farris-ManningI want to go on the pilgrimage to see who I am without my parents. I want to see more of the world as myself instead of as ‘the sister’ or ‘the daughter’. I want to see how much I actually need to survive with. I want to get to know the group better and I want to gasp at something beautiful. I want to see the side of the world that’s not familiar, unsure and therefore simply itself.

The Leaders

Jenn Nelson – Sometimes in the quietness of moments our soul connects with the Divine; however, contrary to the stillness is the connection with the Divine when one person’s being connects with another person’s being.  It is these connections within our own stillness which connect with the spirit of each other member, forming a beautiful web of loves life in community.  It’s this web that I hope is created through the new experiences of this pilgrimage journey.

Wendy Snelgrove – We leaders cannot control the outcomes of this pilgrimage nor of the entire J2A experience.  The real work of J2A is by the youth themselves, and the action of the Spirit.  We can merely be a voice of wisdom (perhaps) and love (certainly!) in this period of self-discovery and self-choosing.  We can design a process with challenge, reflection, and moments of AWE.  Each youth responds in his or her own way.  I trust completely that God will lead each of our wonderful youth to the right experience for them.

Marti Settle – To be present in the formation of young adults is both a challenge and a gift.  I hope to be open to receiving challenge and gift during this pilgrimage, but also to offering challenge and gift through my companionship. If there is one thing I want to achieve, it would be awareness of the journey – for myself and for my fellow travelers.
